Dhamma.gift is a set of connected tools built around the Pali Canon (Sutta and Vinaya) and its translations: search, a line-by-line reader, a Pali dictionary, and a text-to-speech player, tied together so that finding a passage, reading it with a translation, listening to it, and memorizing it are all one continuous workflow rather than separate apps.

Dhamma.gift gathers useful online resources on Dhamma and Pali in one place — texts, dictionaries, key websites, e-books and tools. They are the tiles on the home screen — see MultiTool. If something's missing, let us know!

Dhamma.Gift Search — the Suttas and Vinaya​

A tool for anyone who wants to systematically work through the Pali Suttas and Vinaya. Results come back in convenient tables with basic and advanced filtering, several sort orders, and grouping by text or by word. Gives direct access to the Pali texts with translations in 25 languages (for Thai: Mahachula first, then Siam Rath); any of them can be shown side by side. Results also link to Theravada.ru, tipitaka.theravada.su and s.dhamma.gift (the BJT, CST and Thai editions side by side). See Search.

  • Line-by-line Pali↔Russian texts: AN, DN, MN, SN, KN (Snp, Ud, Iti, Dhp, Thag, Thig), and parts of the Vinaya Vibhaṅga.

A set of tools for voicing canonical texts, built right into the reading flow instead of living in a separate playback app.

1. Reading Mode player — built straight into the sutta interface:

  • alternates Pali and translation in either order;
  • pauses between phrases — an adjustable gap for reflection or reading aloud along with it;
  • A-B loop — repeat any passage for focused listening;
  • DG voices (the default) — Pali: Pratham, o Dhamma.Gift (beta), Priyamvada; English: Yojanāni, Alan, Kathleen; Russian: Puriso, o Dhamma.Gift (beta), Irina. Each can be downloaded for offline use;
  • Google cloud voices — with the built-in trial key or your own Google Cloud API key;
  • built-in device voices (e.g. Android's Sanskrit voice reads Pali reasonably well) — work offline;
  • auto-scroll and highlighting of the current phrase.

2. Memorize & Meditate (Memo) — memorize texts by heart or build audio meditations:

  • a highly flexible TTS setup — customize the voicing for any text;
  • fine-grained slicing into blocks by period, comma, or line;
  • adjustable repeat count and pause length per phrase;
  • an end-of-cycle gong (handy for meditation);
  • an MP3 generator — save the whole session as one audio file;
  • "Timer" mode — a plain interval timer for meditation with no text;
  • visual hints — compressing text down to first letters, for memory training.

  • Listen in MP3 — under many texts, MP3 files of the whole text: the Pali and the translation.
  • Export — save a text or search results as PDF or Markdown.

Offline library​

Download the text library once, from Settings or from the banner on the home screen. Then search and reading work without internet: on the site, in the PWA and in the apps. It does not work in a private browser window. See Offline library.

@DGift_bot — Telegram bot & Mini Apps​

Open @dgift_bot on Telegram

Type into any chat or group @Dhammagift_bot (or its short name @Dgift_bot), start typing a Pali word or a text number, and the bot shows matches with links to Read/Search and the Dictionary. There are also dedicated Mini Apps: search, reading and the dictionary.

  • Privacy first: no account needed. Your data stays in the browser unless you turn on sync. See Login and Privacy Policy.

  • Everything can be installed offline/locally on Android, iOS, Windows and Mac.
