PWA: install straight from the browser

Install as a PWA

In short, it's the same site as a standalone app with its own icon, without installing anything through an app store: one button right in your browser, and an icon appears on your phone or computer, just like a regular app.

A few conveniences are added on top of the site:

Shortcuts

A long-press on the app icon on your home screen (or a right-click on the icon in the taskbar on a computer) opens a menu of quick links — straight to where you need, skipping the home page: favorites & history, table of contents, Memo, dictionary, the Patimokkhas, and so on.

You're reading anything — an article, a book in another app, a message — you come across a word or phrase in Pali, select it and send it to Dhamma.Gift through the regular system "Share" menu. The app opens right away with search results for that phrase.

Shortcuts work on Android and on computers; "Share to Search" on Android and Windows. On iPhone and iPad (Safari) neither works: there the Dhamma.Gift app gives both.

Offline library

The installed site can hold the whole library on the device, so search and reading work without internet: Settings → Offline library. This doesn't work in a private (incognito) window, and the site says so.
