Vijayā
“Catukkhattuṁ pañcakkhattuṁ, Four or five times
vihārā upanikkhamiṁ; I left my dwelling;
Aladdhā cetaso santiṁ, I had failed to find peace of heart,
citte avasavattinī. or any control over my mind.
Bhikkhuniṁ upasaṅkamma, I approached a nun
sakkaccaṁ paripucchahaṁ; and politely questioned her.
Sā me dhammamadesesi, She taught me the Dhamma:
dhātuāyatanāni ca. the elements and sense fields,
Cattāri ariyasaccāni, the four noble truths,
indriyāni balāni ca; the faculties and the powers,
Bojjhaṅgaṭṭhaṅgikaṁ maggaṁ, the awakening factors, and the eightfold path
uttamatthassa pattiyā. for the attainment of the highest goal.
Tassāhaṁ vacanaṁ sutvā, After hearing her words,
karontī anusāsaniṁ; I did her bidding.
Rattiyā purime yāme, In the first watch of the night,
pubbajātimanussariṁ. I recollected my past lives.
Rattiyā majjhime yāme, In the middle watch of the night,
dibbacakkhuṁ visodhayiṁ; I purified my clairvoyance.
Rattiyā pacchime yāme, In the last watch of the night,
tamokhandhaṁ padālayiṁ. I shattered the mass of darkness.
Pītisukhena ca kāyaṁ, I then meditated pervading my body
Pharitvā vihariṁ tadā; with rapture and bliss.
Sattamiyā pāde pasāresiṁ, On the seventh day I stretched out my feet,
Tamokhandhaṁ padāliyā”ti. having shattered the mass of darkness.
