Aṅguttara Nikāya - The Numerical Discourses

4: The Book of the Fours

18. Wrong Courses (2)

1"Bhikkhus, there are these four ways of not taking a wrong course. What four? One does not take a wrong course because of desire, because of hatred, because of delusion, or because of fear. These are the four ways of not taking a wrong course."

1"Cattārimāni, bhikkhave, nāgatigamanāni. Katamāni cattāri? Na chandāgatiṁ gacchati, na dosāgatiṁ gacchati, na mohāgatiṁ gacchati, na bhayāgatiṁ gacchati – imāni kho, bhikkhave, cattāri nāgatigamanānīti.

2If one does not transgress the Dhamma
through desire, hate, fear, or delusion,
one's fame becomes full like the moon
in the bright fortnight.

2Chandā dosā bhayā mohā,
yo dhammaṁ nātivattati;
Āpūrati tassa yaso,
sukkapakkheva candimā"ti.

Aṭṭhamaṁ.
