1"Bhikkhus, there are these five powers. What five? The power of faith, the power of energy, the power of mindfulness, the power of concentration, and the power of wisdom.

(1) "And where, bhikkhus, is the power of faith to be seen? The power of faith is to be seen in the four factors of stream-entry. [n.982] The four factors of stream-entry (cattāri sotāpattiyaṅgāni): unwavering confidence in the Buddha, the Dhamma, and the Saṅgha, and the virtuous behavior dear to the noble ones. See AN9.27, AN10.92. (2) And where is the power of energy to be seen? The power of energy is to be seen in the four right strivings. (3) And where is the power of mindfulness to be seen? The power of mindfulness is to be seen in the four establishments of mindfulness. (4) And where is the power of concentration to be seen? The power of concentration is to be seen in the four jhānas. (5) And where is the power of wisdom to be seen? The power of wisdom is to be seen in the four noble truths.

"These, bhikkhus, are the five powers."

1"Pañcimāni, bhikkhave, balāni. Katamāni pañca? Saddhābalaṁ, vīriyabalaṁ, satibalaṁ, samādhibalaṁ, paññābalaṁ.

Kattha ca, bhikkhave, saddhābalaṁ daṭṭhabbaṁ? Catūsu sotāpattiyaṅgesu. Ettha saddhābalaṁ daṭṭhabbaṁ. Kattha ca, bhikkhave, vīriyabalaṁ daṭṭhabbaṁ? Catūsu sammappadhānesu. Ettha vīriyabalaṁ daṭṭhabbaṁ. Kattha ca, bhikkhave, satibalaṁ daṭṭhabbaṁ? Catūsu satipaṭṭhānesu. Ettha satibalaṁ daṭṭhabbaṁ. Kattha ca, bhikkhave, samādhibalaṁ daṭṭhabbaṁ? Catūsu jhānesu. Ettha samādhibalaṁ daṭṭhabbaṁ. Kattha ca, bhikkhave, paññābalaṁ daṭṭhabbaṁ? Catūsu ariyasaccesu. Ettha paññābalaṁ daṭṭhabbaṁ.

Imāni kho, bhikkhave, pañca balānī"ti.
