70. Higher Fetters

1"Bhikkhus, there are these five higher fetters. What five? Lust for form, lust for the formless, conceit, restlessness, and ignorance.

2These are the five higher fetters …. These four establishments of mindfulness are to be developed for abandoning these five higher fetters."

1"Pañcimāni, bhikkhave, uddhambhāgiyāni saṁyojanāni. Katamāni pañca? Rūparāgo, arūparāgo, māno, uddhaccaṁ, avijjā – imāni kho, bhikkhave, pañcuddhambhāgiyāni saṁyojanāni.

2Imesaṁ kho, bhikkhave, pañcannaṁ uddhambhāgiyānaṁ saṁyojanānaṁ pahānāya … pe … ime cattāro satipaṭṭhānā bhāvetabbā"ti.
