This volume gathers Bhikkhu Anālayo's studies of discourses from the Saṃyukta-āgama, the Chinese parallel to the thematically arranged Saṃyutta-nikāya, together with two appendices taking up further points of textual and doctrinal detail. The chapters translate and compare individual discourses on topics ranging from the four noble truths and the ethics of almsgiving to the ordination and portrayal of nuns, the question of whether an arahant may take their own life, and the sixteen steps of mindfulness of breathing, drawing where relevant on parallels preserved in the Ekottarika-āgama, the Udāna, and the Dhammapada commentary.
