1On one occasion the Blessed One was dwelling at Rājagaha in Jīvaka's Mango Grove. There he addressed the bhikkhus thus: [n.156] This sutta and the next are partly parallel to 22.5–6.

"Bhikkhus, develop concentration. sn.iv.144 When a bhikkhu is concentrated, things become manifest [n.157] Okkhāyati. Spk glosses with paññāyati pākaṭaṁ hoti, "is discerned, becomes clear." to him as they really are. And what becomes manifest to him as it really is? The eye becomes manifest to him as it really is—as impermanent. Forms become manifest to him as they really are—as impermanent. Eye-consciousness … Eye-contact … Whatever feeling arises with eye-contact as condition—whether pleasant or painful or neither-painful-nor-pleasant—becomes manifest to him as it really is—as impermanent.

"The ear becomes manifest to him as it really is … The mind becomes manifest to him as it really is … Whatever feeling arises with mind-contact as condition … becomes manifest to him as it really is—as impermanent.

"Develop concentration, bhikkhus. When a bhikkhu is concentrated, things become manifest to him as they really are."

1Ekaṁ samayaṁ bhagavā rājagahe vihārati jīvakambavane. Tatra kho bhagavā bhikkhū āmantesi:

"Bhikkhavo"ti … pe … "samādhiṁ, bhikkhave, bhāvetha. Samāhitassa, bhikkhave, bhikkhuno yathābhūtaṁ okkhāyati. Kiñca yathābhūtaṁ okkhāyati? Cakkhuṁ aniccanti yathābhūtaṁ okkhāyati, rūpā aniccāti yathābhūtaṁ okkhāyati, cakkhuviññāṇaṁ aniccanti yathābhūtaṁ okkhāyati, cakkhusamphasso aniccoti yathābhūtaṁ okkhāyati, yampidaṁ cakkhusamphassapaccayā uppajjati vedayitaṁ sukhaṁ vā dukkhaṁ vā adukkhamasukhaṁ vā tampi aniccanti yathābhūtaṁ okkhāyati … pe …

jivhā aniccāti yathābhūtaṁ okkhāyati … pe … mano aniccoti yathābhūtaṁ okkhāyati, dhammā aniccāti yathābhūtaṁ okkhāyati … pe … yampidaṁ manosamphassapaccayā uppajjati vedayitaṁ sukhaṁ vā dukkhaṁ vā adukkhamasukhaṁ vā tampi aniccanti yathābhūtaṁ okkhāyati.
