SN22:17 What is Nonself

1At Sāvatthī. "Bhikkhus, form is nonself. What is nonself sn.iii.23 should be seen as it really is with correct wisdom thus: ‘This is not mine, this I am not, this is not my self.’

1Sāvatthinidānaṁ. "Rūpaṁ, bhikkhave, anattā. Yadanattā taṁ ‘netaṁ mama, nesohamasmi, na meso attā’ti evametaṁ yathābhūtaṁ sammappaññāya daṭṭhabbaṁ.

"Feeling is nonself … . Perception is nonself … . Volitional formations are nonself … . Consciousness is nonself. What is nonself should be seen as it really is with correct wisdom thus: ‘This is not mine, this I am not, this is not my self.’

Vedanā anattā … saññā anattā … saṅkhārā anattā … viññāṇaṁ anattā. Yadanattā taṁ ‘netaṁ mama, nesohamasmi, na meso attā’ti evametaṁ yathābhūtaṁ sammappaññāya daṭṭhabbaṁ.

"Seeing thus … He understands: ‘ … there is no more for this state of being.’"

Evaṁ passaṁ, bhikkhave … pe … nāparaṁ itthattāyā’ti pajānātī"ti.
