1"Bhikkhus, there are these five faculties. What five? The faculty of faith … the faculty of wisdom.

1"Pañcimāni, bhikkhave, indriyāni. Katamāni pañca? Saddhindriyaṁ … pe … paññindriyaṁ.

"And where, bhikkhus, is the faculty of faith to be seen? The faculty of faith is to be seen here in the four factors of stream-entry.[n.191] See SN55.2, etc. A parallel treatment of the five powers (pañca bala) is at AN5.15.

Kattha ca, bhikkhave, saddhindriyaṁ daṭṭhabbaṁ? Catūsu sotāpattiyaṅgesu – ettha saddhindriyaṁ daṭṭhabbaṁ.

"And where, bhikkhus, is the faculty of energy to be seen? The faculty of energy is to be seen here in the four right strivings.[n.192] See SN48.10 just below. Parallel definitions of the five powers are at AN5.12, but with the samādhibala defined solely by the jhāna formula.

Kattha ca, bhikkhave, vīriyindriyaṁ daṭṭhabbaṁ? Catūsu sammappadhānesu – ettha vīriyindriyaṁ daṭṭhabbaṁ.

"And where, bhikkhus, is the faculty of mindfulness to be seen? The faculty of mindfulness is to be seen here in the four establishments of mindfulness.

Kattha ca, bhikkhave, satindriyaṁ daṭṭhabbaṁ? Catūsu satipaṭṭhānesu – ettha satindriyaṁ daṭṭhabbaṁ.

"And where, bhikkhus, is the faculty of concentration to be seen? The faculty of concentration is to be seen here in the four jhānas.

Kattha ca, bhikkhave, samādhindriyaṁ daṭṭhabbaṁ? Catūsu jhānesu – ettha samādhindriyaṁ daṭṭhabbaṁ.

"And where, bhikkhus, is the faculty of wisdom to be seen? The faculty of wisdom is to be seen here in the Four Noble Truths.

Kattha ca, bhikkhave, paññindriyaṁ daṭṭhabbaṁ? Catūsu ariyasaccesu – ettha paññindriyaṁ daṭṭhabbaṁ.

"These, bhikkhus, are the five faculties."

Imāni kho, bhikkhave, pañcindriyānī"ti.
