Māradheyyasutta
Vuttañhetaṁ bhagavatā vuttamarahatāti me sutaṁ:This was said by the Blessed One, said by the Arahant, so I have heard:
“Tīhi, bhikkhave, dhammehi samannāgato bhikkhu atikkamma māradheyyaṁ ādiccova virocati.“Endowed with three qualities, monks, a monk has passed beyond Māra’s domain and shines like the sun. Katamehi tīhi?Which three? Idha, bhikkhave, bhikkhu asekhena sīlakkhandhena samannāgato hoti, asekhena samādhikkhandhena samannāgato hoti, asekhena paññākkhandhena samannāgato hoti—There is the case where a monk is endowed with the aggregate of virtue of one beyond training [i.e., an Arahant], the aggregate of concentration of one beyond training, the aggregate of discernment of one beyond training. imehi kho, bhikkhave, tīhi dhammehi samannāgato bhikkhu atikkamma māradheyyaṁ ādiccova virocatī”ti.Endowed with these three qualities a monk has passed beyond Māra’s domain and shines like the sun.”
Etamatthaṁ bhagavā avoca. Tatthetaṁ iti vuccati:
“Sīlaṁ samādhi paññā ca, yassa ete subhāvitā;Virtue, concentration, discernment: one in whom these are well-developed, Atikkamma māradheyyaṁ, ādiccova virocatī”ti.passing beyond Māra’s domain, shines like the sun.
