Parihānasutta

Vuttañhetaṁ bhagavatā vuttamarahatāti me sutaṁ:This was said by the Blessed One, said by the Arahant, so I have heard:

“Tayome, bhikkhave, dhammā sekhassa bhikkhuno parihānāya saṁvattanti.“Monks, these three things lead to the falling away of a monk in training. Katame tayo?Which three? Idha, bhikkhave, sekho bhikkhu kammārāmo hoti, kammarato, kammārāmatamanuyutto;There is the case where a monk in training enjoys activity, delights in activity, is intent on his enjoyment of activity. bhassārāmo hoti, bhassarato, bhassārāmatamanuyutto;
bhassārāmo → bhassarato (sabbatha)
He enjoys chatter, delights in chatter, is intent on his enjoyment of chatter.
niddārāmo hoti, niddārato, niddārāmatamanuyutto.He enjoys sleep, delights in sleep, is intent on his enjoyment of sleep. Ime kho, bhikkhave, tayo dhammā sekhassa bhikkhuno parihānāya saṁvattanti.These are the three things that lead to the falling away of a monk in training.

Tayome, bhikkhave, dhammā sekhassa bhikkhuno aparihānāya saṁvattanti.“These three things lead to the non-falling away of a monk in training. Katame tayo?Which three? Idha, bhikkhave, sekho bhikkhu na kammārāmo hoti, na kammarato, na kammārāmatamanuyutto;There is the case where a monk in training doesn’t enjoy activity, doesn’t delight in activity, isn’t intent on his enjoyment of activity. na bhassārāmo hoti, na bhassarato, na bhassārāmatamanuyutto;He doesn’t enjoy chatter, doesn’t delight in chatter, isn’t intent on his enjoyment of chatter. na niddārāmo hoti, na niddārato, na niddārāmatamanuyutto.He doesn’t enjoy sleep, doesn’t delight in sleep, isn’t intent on his enjoyment of sleep. Ime kho, bhikkhave, tayo dhammā sekhassa bhikkhuno aparihānāya saṁvattantī”ti.These are the three things that lead to the non-falling away of a monk in training.”

Etamatthaṁ bhagavā avoca. Tatthetaṁ iti vuccati:

“Kammārāmo bhassārāmo, niddārāmo ca uddhato;Enjoying activity, delighting in chatter, enjoying sleep, & restless: Abhabbo tādiso bhikkhu, phuṭṭhuṁ sambodhimuttamaṁ.he’s incapable –a monk like this– of touching superlative self-awakening.

Tasmā hi appakiccassa, appamiddho anuddhato;So he should be a man of few duties, of little sloth, not restless. Bhabbo so tādiso bhikkhu, phuṭṭhuṁ sambodhimuttaman”ti.He’s capable –a monk like this– of touching superlative self-awakening.

Ayampi attho vutto bhagavatā, iti me sutanti.

Dasamaṁ.

Tatiyo vaggo.

Tassuddānaṁ

Dve diṭṭhī nissaraṇaṁ rūpaṁ, putto avuṭṭhikena ca; Sukhā ca bhiduro dhātu, parihānena te dasāti.
bhiduro → bhindanā (sabbattha)
