Pasannacittasutta

Vuttañhetaṁ bhagavatā vuttamarahatāti me sutaṁ:This was said by the Blessed One, said by the Arahant, so I have heard:

“Idhāhaṁ, bhikkhave, ekaccaṁ puggalaṁ pasannacittaṁ evaṁ cetasā ceto paricca pajānāmi:“Monks, there is the case where a certain person is clear-minded. Having encompassed that mind with [my] awareness, I discern, ‘imamhi cāyaṁ samaye puggalo kālaṁ kareyya yathābhataṁ nikkhitto evaṁ sagge’.‘If this person were to die at this instant, then as if he were to be carried off, he would thus be placed in heaven.’ Taṁ kissa hetu? Why is that? Cittaṁ hissa, bhikkhave, pasannaṁ.Because his mind is clear. Cetopasādahetu kho pana, bhikkhave, evam’idhekacce sattā kāyassa bhedā paraṁ maraṇā sugatiṁ saggaṁ lokaṁ upapajjantī”ti.It’s because of clear-mindedness that there are cases where some beings– at the break-up of the body, after death–reappear in a heavenly world.”

Etamatthaṁ bhagavā avoca. Tatthetaṁ iti vuccati:

“Pasannacittaṁ ñatvāna, ekaccaṁ idha puggalaṁ;Knowing the case of a clear-minded person, Etamatthañca byākāsi, buddho bhikkhūna santike.the One Awakened explained its meaning in the presence of the monks.

Imamhi cāyaṁ samaye, kālaṁ kayirātha puggalo; If that person were to die at this instant, Sugatiṁ upapajjeyya, cittaṁ hissa pasāditaṁ.he’d reappear in heaven because his mind is clear–

Yathā haritvā nikkhipeyya, evamevaṁ tathāvidho;as if he were carried off and placed there. Cetopasādahetu hi, sattā gacchanti suggatin”ti.It’s because of clear-mindedness that beings go to a good destination.

Ayampi attho vutto bhagavatā, iti me sutanti.

Paṭhamaṁ.
