Dukkhavihārasutta

(…) Vuttañhetaṁ bhagavatā vuttamarahatāti me sutaṁ:
(…) → (dve dhamme anukkaṭi) (csp1ed)
This was said by the Blessed One, said by the Arahant, so I have heard:

“Dvīhi, bhikkhave, dhammehi samannāgato bhikkhu diṭṭheva dhamme dukkhaṁ viharati savighātaṁ saupāyāsaṁ sapariḷāhaṁ;“Endowed with two things, monks, a monk lives in stress in the present life–troubled, distressed, kāyassa bhedā paraṁ maraṇā duggati pāṭikaṅkhā.& feverish–and at the break-up of the body, after death, a bad destination can be expected. Katamehi dvīhi?Which two? Indriyesu aguttadvāratāya ca, bhojane amattaññutāya ca.
aguttadvāratāya → aguttadvāro (aṭṭha.) | amattaññutāya → amattaññū (aṭṭha.)
A lack of guarding of the doors of the sense faculties, and knowing no moderation in food.
Imehi kho, bhikkhave, dvīhi dhammehi samannāgato bhikkhu diṭṭheva dhamme dukkhaṁ viharati savighātaṁ saupāyāsaṁ sapariḷāhaṁ;Endowed with these two things, a monk lives in stress in the present life–troubled, distressed, kāyassa bhedā paraṁ maraṇā duggati pāṭikaṅkhā”ti.& feverish–and at the break-up of the body, after death, a bad destination can be expected.”

Etamatthaṁ bhagavā avoca. Tatthetaṁ iti vuccati:

“Cakkhu sotañca ghānañca, jivhā kāyo tathā mano;Eye & ear & nose, tongue, body & mind: Etāni yassa dvārāni, aguttāni ca bhikkhuno.
aguttāni ca → aguttānīdha (bj); aguttānidha (pts-vp-pli1, csp1ed)
when a monk leaves these doors unguarded

Bhojanamhi amattaññū, indriyesu asaṁvuto;–knowing no moderation in food, not restraining his senses– Kāyadukkhaṁ cetodukkhaṁ, dukkhaṁ so adhigacchati.he experiences stress: stress in body, stress in mind.

Ḍayhamānena kāyena, ḍayhamānena cetasā;Burning in body, burning in mind, Divā vā yadi vā rattiṁ, dukkhaṁ viharati tādiso”ti.whether by day or by night, one like this lives in suffering & stress.

Ayampi attho vutto bhagavatā, iti me sutanti.

Paṭhamaṁ.
