Desanāsutta
Vuttañhetaṁ bhagavatā vuttamarahatāti me sutaṁ:This was said by the Blessed One, said by the Arahant, so I have heard:
“Tathāgatassa, bhikkhave, arahato sammāsambuddhassa dve dhammadesanā pariyāyena bhavanti.“Monks, the Tathāgata–worthy & rightly self-awakened–has two Dhamma discourses given in sequence. Katamā dve?Which two? ‘Pāpaṁ pāpakato passathā’ti—‘See evil as evil.’ ayaṁ paṭhamā dhammadesanā;This is the first Dhamma discourse. ‘pāpaṁ pāpakato disvā tattha nibbindatha virajjatha vimuccathā’ti—‘Having seen evil as evil, become disenchanted there, dispassionate there, released.’ ayaṁ dutiyā dhammadesanā.This is the second Dhamma discourse. Tathāgatassa, bhikkhave, arahato sammāsambuddhassa imā dve dhammadesanā pariyāyena bhavantī”ti.These are the two Dhamma discourses that the Tathāgata–worthy & rightly self-awakened–has given in sequence.”
Etamatthaṁ bhagavā avoca. Tatthetaṁ iti vuccati:
“Tathāgatassa buddhassa, sabbabhūtānukampino;See the two statements, declared in sequence, Pariyāyavacanaṁ passa, dve ca dhammā pakāsitā.by the Tathāgata, awakened, sympathetic to all beings. The first:
Pāpakaṁ passatha cetaṁ, tattha cāpi virajjatha;
cetaṁ → chekā (sya-all); cekaṁ (pts-vp-pli1)see evil. be dispassionate there toward evil. Tato virattacittāse, dukkhassantaṁ karissathā”ti.Then, with a mind dispassionate, you will make an end of suffering & stress.
