Makkhasutta
Vuttañhetaṁ bhagavatā vuttamarahatāti me sutaṁ:This was said by the Blessed One, said by the Arahant, so I have heard:
“Ekadhammaṁ, bhikkhave, pajahatha;“Abandon one quality, monks, and I guarantee you non-return. ahaṁ vo pāṭibhogo anāgāmitāya. Katamaṁ ekadhammaṁ?Which one quality? Makkhaṁ, bhikkhave, ekadhammaṁ pajahatha;Abandon contempt as the one quality, and I guarantee you non-return.” ahaṁ vo pāṭibhogo anāgāmitāyā”ti.
Etamatthaṁ bhagavā avoca. Tatthetaṁ iti vuccati:
“Yena makkhena makkhāse, sattā gacchanti duggatiṁ;
makkhāse → makkhitāse (sya-all)The contempt with which beings go to a bad destination, disdainful: Taṁ makkhaṁ sammadaññāya, pajahanti vipassino;from rightly knowing that contempt, those who see clearly let go. Pahāya na punāyanti, imaṁ lokaṁ kudācanan”ti.Letting go, they never come to this world again.
