Paṭhamaāsavasutta

Vuttañhetaṁ bhagavatā vuttamarahatāti me sutaṁ:This was said by the Blessed One, said by the Arahant, so I have heard:

“Tayome, bhikkhave, āsavā.“Monks, there are these three effluents. Katame tayo?Which three? Kāmāsavo, bhavāsavo, avijjāsavo—The effluent of sensuality, the effluent of becoming, the effluent of ignorance. ime kho, bhikkhave, tayo āsavā”ti.These are the three effluents.”

Etamatthaṁ bhagavā avoca. Tatthetaṁ iti vuccati:

“Samāhito sampajāno, sato buddhassa sāvako;Centered, alert, mindful, the Awakened One’s disciple Āsave ca pajānāti, āsavānañca sambhavaṁ.discerns effluents, how effluents come into play,

Yattha cetā nirujjhanti, maggañca khayagāminaṁ;where they cease, & the path to their ending. Āsavānaṁ khayā bhikkhu, nicchāto parinibbuto”ti.With the ending of effluents, a monk free from hunger is totally unbound.

Ayampi attho vutto bhagavatā, iti me sutanti.

Sattamaṁ.
